Project 1
I supported two APWs commissioned by the World Health Organization (WHO).
(A) Development of a tool for situation analysis of AMR surveillance programs in Southeast Asia:
WHO SEARO initiated the development of this tool to assist Member States in crafting their National Action Plans on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) by addressing identified gaps in their efforts to contain AMR. In the post-National Action Plan period, the tool has been utilized by WHO SEARO to conduct regular evaluations of the existing AMR NAP and NAP associated surveillance activities.
I conducted a comprehensive review of evidence utilizing systematic and scoping literature review approaches. The outcomes of these reviews were utilized, in consultation with the WHO and expert groups, to develop and refine the tools. The tool for AMR surveillance underwent pilot testing in Indonesia and was subsequently deployed across SEAR member states. The results of the review contributed to a special issue on AMR published in the British Medical Journal, providing valuable insights for the global efforts in combating antimicrobial resistance.
Project 2
(B) Situation analysis of AMR and its containment in India:
The WHO Country Office, India, commissioned this review to be presented at the Inter-Ministerial Meeting; it was crucial in the ratification of the National Action Plan on AMR in India.
I conducted an in-depth review of the existing literature, policies, and practices related to AMR in the Indian context. The systematic and scoping review approaches were employed to gather and analyze data. The outcomes of this analysis were then utilized in collaboration with WHO and expert groups to inform the development of strategies for AMR containment in India. This involved synthesizing evidence on the prevalence of AMR, the factors contributing to its rise, and the effectiveness of existing interventions. The results of this comprehensive review were presented at the Inter-Ministerial Meeting, contributing significantly to the development and subsequent ratification of the National Action Plan on AMR in India.
