Project Brief

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) was one of the first local health authorities in India to introduce the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV). This collaborative study evaluated the public health impact of the vaccination rollout, including changes in disease burden, cost-effectiveness, and environmental circulation of Salmonella species. Implemented through a multi-institutional partnership involving NMMC, ICMR–NICED, WHO India, WHO Headquarters (Geneva), the International Vaccine Institute (Korea), the U.S. CDC, and Stanford University, the study provided critical evidence to guide large-scale typhoid control strategies in India.

Role & Responsbilities

In my role as a Co-Investigator, I actively contributed to project implementation, overseeing regulatory activities such as obtaining Health Ministry Screening Committee (HMSC) clearances, Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) clearances, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory guidelines. Additionally, I played a key role in setting up some post hoc data analysis protocols, facilitating a comprehensive evaluation of the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine introduction program in Navi Mumbai. This research has provided valuable insights into the effectiveness and implications of typhoid vaccination programs, contributing to the broader understanding of vaccine impact on disease burden and economic considerations.
