September 2015 – December 2016 (Completed)
Project Brief
This study aimed to identify knowledge gaps crucial for the prevention and control of zoonotic diseases and develop critical research questions to address these gaps. This study was undertaken across seven countries: Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Nepal (Asia); Ethiopia, Ghana, South Africa (Africa); and Belgium (Europe). The Child Health and Nutrition Research Initiative (CHNRI) approach, tailored for zoonoses priority identification, was employed for this comprehensive investigation. The Institute of Tropical Medicine, Belgium, facilitated the study through the Strategic Network of Neglected Tropical Diseases and Zoonoses (SNNDZ).
Role & Responsbilities
In my role as a Senior Research Associate, I contributed to the development of a protocol for national-level priority setting, collaborating with country investigators to adapt the protocol to diverse country-specific contexts. Additionally, I created training guidelines and undertook training programs for country investigators, ensuring their familiarity with the tools employed. I supported country investigators in data collection, cleaning and analysis, emphasizing quality control throughout the process. Further responsibilities involved active participation in data analysis and interpretation with country investigators, as well as the drafting of reports and manuscripts summarizing the study’s findings. This initiative has contributed valuable insights into setting research priorities for zoonoses control, fostering a more targeted and impactful approach to addressing zoonotic diseases on a global scale.
